Reveal and Ribbon Cutting of Mural on Dwight Street, with a purpose: Put the Phone Down.

 In Updates

On Thursday, October 16, 2025, Holyoke officials, including Mayor Joshua A. Garcia, Ward 4 City Councilor Kocayne Givner, and Police Chief Brian Keenan, dedicated a new mural on Dwight Street Thursday as part of a city grant to fight distracted driving.

The mural, located at St. Jermaine Avenue and Dwight Street, was a collaboration between the city, MassDOT, Travelers Marketing, and hundreds of community members. Its goal is to remind drivers that using mobile devices behind the wheel has caused a spike in accidents and fatalities.

The artist leading this project was Youme Nguyen Ly, along the amazing team at Commonwealth Murals, who created this large format art piece, for a collective painting session, with the participation of Holyoke residents of all ages, during the Back to School event in August at Kelly School.

Presented by Travelers Marketing, this mural is a reminder for drivers to not use their phones while driving, under the message “Mira! Phone down.”
