On Saturday, May 30th, the community gathered at Holyoke Media for The People’s Mic, an impromptu open mic, organized by poet, writer, and activist, Mishie Serrano, designed specifically for the artists, neighbors, organizers, students, elders, and dreamers of Holyoke.

The prompt was simple: Bring your poems, songs, joy, grief, jokes, stories, unfinished thoughts, or just yourself. With an explicit reminder that there was “no pressure to perform or be perfect,” the result was an incredibly moving, authentic evening of storytelling and creative expression.
