Arbor Day Celebration at the Armour Yard. April 24, 2026.
On Friday, April 24, 2026, the Holyoke community came together for a powerful day of environmental action and celebration!
Hosted at the Armour Yard, this year’s Arbor Day was more than just a holiday it was a collective step toward a greener, healthier future for the city. Local youth leaders from the Community Empowerment Lab at Enlace de Familias, took center stage, delivering a moving presentation on the importance of environmental stewardship.
During the activity, volunteers and partners rolled up their sleeves to plant trees, continuing the legacy started by J. Sterling Morton in 1872 to improve air quality, provide vital shade, and promote conservation for generations to come. Nuestras Raíces played a hosting role in this event, with Daniel Ross as the main presenter. Holyoke Mayor, Joshua A. García made a proclamation, and we heard from the Hispanic Access Foundation, about their work, and involvement in this event, and trees plating activity.
This event was made possible by an incredible coalition of partners dedicated to the “re-greening” of Holyoke: Enlace de Familias, Nuestras Raíces, The Hispanic Access Foundation, Holyoke Parks and Recreation, Regreen Springfield, Fyre House Church, Holyoke Boys and Girls Club, Holyoke Youth Football, Paper City Basketball, and the Eagle Eye Institute.
Trees are an investment in the future. By planting today, we are ensuring cooler summers, cleaner air, and a more vibrant urban landscape for all Holyoke residents.
