Balafon Quartet at the Holyoke Public Library.
The Holyoke Public Library hosted a music performance by Balafon Quartet, in the event “A Celebration of West African Musical Traditions.”
The balafon is a xylophone from the Mandé culture, a traditional West African percussion instrument, specifically a type of xylophone featuring wooden keys suspended over calabash gourd resonators. Holds deep roots to the Mandé culture.
The music showcase, was led by Guinean griot and virtuoso Abou Sylla, and with the performance by Andy Algire, Niko Diarra-Koloseus, and Irene Koloseus.
