The grand opening of the new Holyoke Media operations center is on Friday, May 19th. And with this celebration, we will have as our inaugural artist the talented Puerto Rican composer, singer, cuatro player, and educator Fabiola Méndez.

Her musical foray into fusions of traditional Puerto Rican music and jazz are part of the musical experience that the public attending the Holyoke Media inauguration will be able to enjoy in the new black-box format television studio and event space.

In this conversation, Fabiola shares with us her artistic and musical development, from an early age in Caguas, Puerto Rico, until her arrival in Boston, where she graduated from the prestigious Berklee College of Music as an educator and cuatro player.

Fabiola has participated in different compilations and musical productions and has released two albums, “Al otro lado del charco” (2019) and “Afrorriqueña” (2021). She is also the composer of the music for the PBS Kids series “Alma’s Way,” which tells the stories of Alma, a girl from a Puerto Rican family living in the Bronx.
