Holyoke Media Presents: Natasha Colón-Ortíz, local artist, joins the muralist cohort of Beyond Walls.

In Arts, Arts and Culture, News

We welcome local artist, educator, and business owner, Natasha Colón-Ortíz to talk about her recent work as an artist, creating a mural as one of the three local artists in Holyoke who joined the cohort of the 2023 Street Art Tour of Beyond Walls, a public art organization focused in the creation of murals in gateway cities.

With the return of Beyond Walls to Holyoke for the second year, we are glad to see the inclusion of local artists in the diverse group of recognized, international creators of public art. In this conversation, we learned about the inspiration behind Natasha’s art piece and its connection to her roots as a Puerto Rican.

Her mural is on the back side of the building on 649 So. Summer Street, next to the massive collaboration mural by Puerto Rican artists David Zayas and Don Rimx, who returned to Holyoke for this second round of murals. Also, we got to see Natasha in the earlier stage of her work, and the final result a few days after.
