HOLYOKE, CHICOPEE & SPRINGFIELD MAYORS ANNOUNCE PLAN TO RID STREETS OF ILLEGAL DIRT MOTORCYCLES

On August 16, 2016, Mayors Terry Murphy of Holyoke, Domenic J. Sarno of Springfield, and John L. Vieau of Chicopee, gathered with State Representative and Springfield City Councilor Orlando Ramos, and State Rep. Pat Duffy, to have a discussion on the problems of illegal bikes and biking practices in our communities.

Reckless illegal dirt bike riders are endangering motorists, and assaulting civilians. This meeting was made to join forces and work with the police and legislative folk, creating city ordinances and adopting state laws that can better resolve this issue.

After the meeting, the three mayors offered a press conference to inform of their actions and collaborative work.

SCHOOLS REOPEN, NO REMOTE LEARNING

Message from Superintendent of Schools Anthony Soto:

We’re days away from students in grades 1-12 returning to school! I’m so excited to welcome students back, and I’m proud of all the work everyone has done to get us here.

The COVID-19 vaccine clinic was a huge success and one of our students, Arthur Lunditran, shared his reason for getting the vaccine. HIS STORY HERE

As we get closer to the start of school, we encourage everyone who is eligible to get the vaccine. I want to note we are using a “Test and Stay” for asymptomatic close contacts of those with COVID-19.

Those who are asymptomatic will have the option to remain in school and be tested daily by the nurse for at least 5 days. We also encourage you to sign up for our COVID-19 safety checks optional testing program.
