What Happens to Assets Seized By The Police?

In City Council, Metro, News, Video

The City Council met this week and among the issues it took up is what the Holyoke Police Department does with assets seized in drug busts. There have been several well-documented in the media drug busts that have resulted in costly vehicles and large sums of cash being taken into custody by the police.

One such major drug bust and assets seized can be read about here.

The council will ask Police Chief Brian Keenan to inform them about this matter at a future meeting.

“I also wanted to see if we could add just to give them a heads up that, specifically we want to ask about Main Street and the recent potential seizure assets coming to the city from the former activities that the or the former Ward two fire station on Main Street. And, that’s been in the news, and we want to make sure when that pot gets divvied, we want to make sure Holyoke gets its court and there’s a number of legal issues around it.” – Councilor Kevin Jourdain

“I just made a note to add myself because I’m very interested in this conversation. ” City Council President Tessa Murphy Romboletti

The agenda and documents about the June 3, 2025, City Council meeting are here.

In a separate matter unrelated to the City Council meeting, Mayor Joshua García is going big on properties that are either abandoned by their owners or not well-maintained by their owners even when there are tenants.

This week he reached out to a property owner through Facebook:

510 South Bridge St and off of Cabot St.

An abandoned building on 510 South Bridge Street.

“Hey Roberto Feliz of 10 Balancing Rock Road, Canton, MA (rffeliz@aol.com). I hope you’re doing well. Listen, the neighborhood (residents and business owners) doesn’t appreciate the lack of maintenance and management of this abandoned building located on 510 South Bridge St and off of Cabot St. The lack of attention is creating blight and attracting unwanted activity. Please address this building asap. Thank you for your attention. Mayor Joshua García
