On September 27, 2022, Holyoke Mayor, Joshua García, signed a pledge that makes the City of Holyoke a “Recovery Ready Workplace” for its employees, and thus becoming the first municipality in Massachusetts to adopt this initiative.

The City of Holyoke took the pledge on Tuesday, September 27. The Hampden County Sheriff’s Department, on Wednesday, September 28.

Addiction and substance use disorders cost the United States billions of dollars per year in healthcare costs, criminal justice involvement, and lost work and productivity.   MassHire Holyoke is committed to tackling this challenge head-on through the Recovery Ready Workplace initiative. Its mission is to create a culture of support for employers and employees who have been impacted by substance use.

MassHire Holyoke’s team will help businesses build this culture through educational tools, resources, and ongoing support so they can establish an environment where people in recovery feel valued and people with addiction have the support they need to get better.
